This artist’s book by Susanne Kriemann is a part of ‘12 650 000’, her contribution to the 5th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. The book presents us with a collection of documentation on the Schwerbelastungskörper (heavy load bearing body), a concrete cylindrical construction in central Berlin. Erected in 1941 by Third Reich architect Albert Speer, the Schwerbelastungskörper was to test the grounds for Adolf Hitler’s plans to turn Berlin into the so-called, ‘Welthauptstadt’ (World Capital), Germania. Over the years, estimates on the weight of this construction have ranged from 12650 to 40000 tons. The articles and photographs in Kriemann’s book are organized according to these estimated weights. The Book was published as part of On Paper –– a special collaborative project between A Prior Magazine and the 5th Berlin Biennale.
