Thoughts from Above was a solo exhibition by Nathan Coley at Bergen Kunsthall and was curated and produced by Per Gunnar Eeg-Tverbakk.

The exhibition was the third and last part of Eeg-Tverbakk’s research scholarship project, ‘Space for Interference’, which dealt with site-specific art and recent changes in the understanding of the term ‘site’.

Thoughts from Above is a montage of several works by Nathan Coley which includes a series of ‘satellite pieces’ placed in various locations in public spaces around the city of Bergen.

We were asked to do a catalogue for the exhibition. Instead of making a traditional catalogue, we suggested printing it in the Bergen Byavis newspaper by purchasing a series of full-page advertisements, thus placing the catalogue in the context of a tabloid newspaper. Since the advertisements were spread throughout the paper, it mixed with other content in unpredictable ways. The newspaper has a print run of 200,000 and is distributed to all households in the Bergen Metropolitan area. The catalogue for Thoughts from Above consisted of the bottom half of the front page, ten full pages and the entire back page, all purchased as regular advertisements.
